Tobo Irori Pottery Workshop

更新日:2017年02月27日

034-陶房彩里-スポット-0

This workshop was started in 2007 by a husband and wife. They use around ten kinds of glaze, including white and black, to create gentle-looking pieces. They offer cups for sake and other beverages, as well as the “Akabeko Series” that is popular amongst women, featuring the cute peeking heads of little red Aizu cows.

Tobo Irori makes all of their pieces—which are meant for everyday use—by hand. They also offer plenty of ways for visitors to experience pottery making. You can try hand-forming your own piece, using a potter's wheel, and painting a piece, all without making a reservation. The workshop's pottery can also be purchased at the Ouchi-Juku, an Edo period post town in Shimogo-machi that is now a tourist spot, the samurai residence (buke yashiki) in Aizu Wakamatsu city, Michi-no-eki Aizu (a roadside station), amongst other places. Come see for yourself the warm pottery pieces made by this couple.
