Monju Bosatsu is enshrined in Monju-in Seiryu-ji temple's Monju-do hall. Locals refer to this bodhisattva as “O-monju-sama.” Once a year on February 25th it is exhibited to the public, at which time the Monju Festival is held. People hoping to succeed in school and improve their artistic and other skills visit from inside and outside the prefecture.

It is said that when the father (Funaki Kagemitsu) and mother of Tenkai Daisojo were hoping to have a child, his mother shut herself in the Monju-do hall to pray, and subsequently became pregnant with the boy who would later become Tenkai.

In Japan, there are three kinds of Monju Bosatsu: one associated with wisdom, with education, and with writing. Seiryu-ji Monju is said to be of the latter type.

With its dark flowers, the temple's Chie (Wisdom) Cherry Blossom Tree is a popular spot to visit.
