Ryuko-ji Temple

更新日:2017年02月27日

010-龍興寺-スポット-0

Ryuko-ji is a famous Tendai sect temple at which it is said that Tenkai Daisojo entered the Buddhist order. This temple, which historical documents indicate once flourished considerably, holds one of Fukushima prefecture's three national treasures: a copy of the Lotus Sutra called the Ichiji rendai hokekyo kaikechi tomo. Based on the idea that each of the Lotus Sutra's 69,384 Chinese characters are a Buddha, a lightly colored lotus pedestal is drawn under each of them.

Behind the temple's main hall there is a lotus pound called “Kahoen.” It includes precious lotuses such as the ancient “Oga Hasu” and the “Chuson-ji Koren,” which was divided from a lotus plant found at Iwate prefecture's Chuson-ji temple. On the temple grounds, one also finds Ukimi Kannon, which is associated with Aizu's thirty-three Kannon pilgrimage sites.
